Customer Profile:


North Star Lighting, LLC is a leading company in the spa lighting industry, with over 10 years of experience in designing and manufacturing high-quality spa lighting products. They offer a wide range of spa lighting solutions, from simple LED strips to sophisticated RGBW systems, to create a relaxing and luxurious spa atmosphere for their customers.



Client Requirements:

The customer required high-quality aluminum-clad PCB for their spa LED lighting products. They needed the aluminum-clad PCB to have high thermal conductivity and low thermal expansion coefficient, to ensure the stable performance and durability of the LED chips. They also wanted the aluminum-clad PCB to be thin to fit into the curved and narrow spaces of the spa.


Project Challenges:

The spa environment poses several challenges for spa LED lighting products, such as high humidity, and frequent exposure to water and chemicals. These factors can affect the heat dissipation and moisture resistance of the PCB, and cause the oxidation and corrosion of the metal components. Moreover, the customer’s product design required a customized aluminum-clad PCB, with precise drilling and routing, to match their specifications and design requirements.

Our Strategy:

We provided the customer with a single-sided aluminum-clad PCB, which consisted of a copper layer and an aluminum substrate. We adopted the following strategies to meet the customer’s needs and overcome the challenges:

Ⅰ: High Thermal Conductivity and Low Thermal Expansion Coefficient:
We used high-grade materials to produce the aluminum-clad PCB. According to MCL, the aluminum-clad PCB has a high thermal conductivity of 2.0 W/mk and a low thermal expansion coefficient of 23 ppm/°C, which ensures the efficient heat dissipation and stable performance of the LED chips. These properties are essential for spa LED lighting products, as they operate at high temperatures and are subject to thermal stress.

Ⅱ: Excellent Heat Dissipation and Moisture Resistance:
We adopted a surface treatment process, called ENIG, to enhance the moisture resistance of the aluminum-clad PCB. The ENIG process forms a protective layer of solder on the aluminum-clad PCB, which prevents the oxidation and corrosion of the metal and improves the solderability and reliability of the LED chips.

Ⅲ: Thin and Flexible Aluminum Clad PCB:
We employed advanced cutting to produce the thin aluminum-clad PCBs. The aluminum-clad PCB had a thickness of 1.0mm, which enabled it to fit into the narrow spaces of the spa. The thin design also reduced the overall weight and volume of the spa LED lighting products, making them easier to install and operate.

Ⅳ: Customized Solutions with Precise Drilling and Routing:
We understood the diverse needs of our customers and offered customized solutions with precise drilling and routing services. We used high-precision CNC machines and laser drills to create accurate and consistent holes and traces on the aluminum-clad PCB, according to the customer’s specifications and design requirements. This customized approach ensured that the aluminum-clad PCB was seamlessly integrated into the customer’s spa LED lighting system, facilitating the installation and operation of the LED lighting system.
